Launching evening

Introducing Lev Moshe

The evening took place on October 1, 2013, the second yahrzeit of Moshe Fenichel z"l, at the Shimon Hatzadik synagogue in Katamon, Jerusalem.

Lev Moshe’s primary goal is to raise awareness of heart disease and cardiac arrest and donate defibrillators for saving lives. In this spirit, the program both inspired and taught each participant how to operate an Automated External Defibrillator in the case of suspected cardiac arrest.

The evening started with an informative shiur by Rav Moshe Zalman Briskman, shlita, about the importance of saving lives and the parameters of doing so according to Jewish law. After refreshments, the family spoke about Moshe's life, and how this project is a fitting memorial. Moshe's son Netanel, described how cardiac arrest claims more than 7, 000 lives each year in Israel and how Lev Moshe will work towards the vital goal of placing defibrillators in public places and educating the public in their use. Debbie Fenichel, wife of Moshe z"l presented the first defibrillator to the Shimon Hatzadik shul. Yosef Hellman, president of the shul, accepted the gift with warm words of thanks from the members of the shul.

The evening then progressed to a detailed demonstration on the use of the defilbrillator with the option for hands-on training for every member of the audience. There was enthusiastic participation with many questions being answered about this life saving process.

Lev Moshe is a project of Keren Yosef, an organization providing and upgrading medical response through the provision of emergency medical vehicles, equipment and training to the emergency services, first responders and members of the public. Keren Yosef representatives made various types of home safety equipment available for sale throughout the evening, at discounted prices. These included smoke detectors, burnshields, and first aid kits.
